Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy

Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy” is a 2013 Filipino comedy film directed by Wenn V. Deramas and produced by Star Cinema and Viva Films, featuring Vice Ganda playing four very different characters — quadruplet siblings separated at birth. The title itself refers to the four identities of the siblings: a girl (Girlie), a boy (Peter), a gay man (Mark), and a lesbian (Panying), which sets the tone for a humorous and chaotic story about family and identity. The film was one of the official entries in the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival.

The story begins decades after the quadruplets are born and tragically separated when their parents split up. Two of the siblings (Girlie and Peter) grow up with their father in the United States living a more comfortable life, while the other two (Mark and Panying) remain in the Philippines with their mother, experiencing hardship and struggle. None of the siblings are aware of each other’s existence until adulthood, and they grow up with very different personalities shaped by their environments.

The family reunion is triggered when Peter falls gravely ill with a liver condition and needs a transplant. Their father reveals to Peter and Girlie that they have siblings in the Philippines who might be a match. This sets off a mission to find and bring back the twins from the Philippines so they can help save Peter’s life. The reunion leads to shock, confusion, and comic situations as the four siblings, each with vastly different outlooks and experiences, meet for the first time.

Mark — the only one who is a compatible donor — agrees to help only on the condition that the rest of the family understands and experiences the hardships he, Panying, and their mother endured. This forces the siblings and their parents to confront long-buried feelings, misunderstandings, and resentment. Their interactions are filled with slapstick humor, identity clashes, and candid moments that reveal deeper emotional wounds beneath the comedy.

Ultimately, “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy” is more than a comedy about mistaken identities and outrageous situations — it emphasizes the importance of family unity and acceptance, no matter how unconventional the family may be. Through laughter, arguments, and heartfelt moments, the quadruplets and their parents learn to reconcile their differences and come together for Peter’s sake. The movie blends comedy with a message about tolerance, personal growth, and the value of familial bonds.
